    When Kula, the famous wave-riding dog of flamboyant gold dealer Barry Buckingham, disappears, the Surfing Detective seems a natural for the case. Yet Kai Cooke knows nothing about finding missing pets. Enter Maile Barnes, a kindred spirit to whom Kai is instantly drawn, and who has the keys to unlock a dark underworld of animal cruelty in the islands.
